Lamination Process

Lamination Process

1. Cutting Shahalak (when using a template)
Cut the oblong shahalak in the size of the surfboard following steps a-e.

(a) Spread the shahalak on the board taking care that it does not crease.

(b) Arrange the template along the center line (marked at the top and bottom of the Shahalak)

(c) Use a pencil to draw the cutting guidelines on the Shahalak

(d) Cut the template about 1cm inside of the line.
*This is done because it is very difficult to wrap the Shahalak around the rails.

(e) Do the same for the opposite side

2.Lamination
Follow points f-k to laminate the Shahalak that you cut in the previous section to your board.

(f) Lay the Shahalak that you cut in part 1 on top of your board and attach it to the nose with a pin.

(g) Stretch the Shahalak from nose to tail, while taking care that it does not stray from the middle or start creasing, then attach it with another pin in the middle.

(h) Fold the tail part of the Shahalak towards the middle of the board then start applying the resin to the foam. Take care that there are no air bubbles when the flap is reconnected to the board.

(i) Apply more resin on top of the Shahalak while removing any excess air out of the laminate.
*Warning, excessive use of force or too many repetitions may cause damage to the Shahalak.

(j) Remove the pin attached to the nose and follow the same steps as with the tail (h) & (i)

(k) Finally remove the center pin and squeeze the Shahalak while applying resin.

This finalizes your Shahalak process. After this you would normally laminate the glass cross on top of the Shahalak.
